STÜSSY / GRIND MAGAZINE WITH POPCAAN

01 / 19 / 2021

The new issue of Japan’s Grind Magazine features Popcaan in Stussy’s Holiday 2018 collection. The editorial was shot on location in Toronto by Liam MacRae and styled by Tom Guinness. The images show the St. Thomas born dancehall heavyweight in a vivid Tie-Dye Workshirt, tweed Beach Pant, classic Camo Military Shirt, electric blue Alpine Pant, and the tonal checked Puffer Jacket. Stussy first featured Popcaan in issue seven of their bi-annual zine in 2016.

Popcaan’s career began in 2007 when he joined Vybz Kartel’s posse. In 2010 he was featured on Kartel’s massive song “Clarks,” making him a certified star. He followed with a string of solo hits “Ravin,” “Party Shot,” and “Only Man She Want.” He signed with Brooklyn’s Mixpak to release his album, Where We Come From, which featured more stripped down production from label head Dre Skull. The album was successful in making dancehall resonate with an American mainstream audience. He has since lent his signature high-pitched vocals to a number of songs with Drake, Pusha T, Jamie xx, and Gorillaz. His new album, Forever, was released earlier this year.

Popcaan’s island origins and vibrant, genre-bending music pair well with Stussy’s effortlessly cool California roots.
